Even if the picture of our beloved celebrities show us perfect looking skin all the time, don’t fall into temptation and think that they’re not dealing with various skin conditions, acne including.

This doesn’t mean that they’re going to pour on all the details about some chronic skin problems or the effective procedures they use for better looking skin. truth be told, only some of them are actually brutally honest about their daily struggles with various skin issues.

Luckily for us, 12 of the stars we all admire out there have decided to tell us a bit about their secrets when fighting against acne. Even more surprising, many of their tips are in fact home remedies that we can all try from the comfort of our home.

Beyoncé

No matter how great her genes may be (we all have seen her mother!), Beyoncé didn’t just wake up with a perfect looking skin. As a matter of fact, it seems that she’s been using Aquaphor for quite some time now. Don’t know what that is? Well, it’s a multi-purpose healing ointment that calms and comforts the most extremely dry skin. Beyoncé was very honest about her night time routine and admitted to Elle magazine that she goes to bed “looking totally greasy”. Greasy and all perfect in the morning, we’d say!

Yara Shahidi

The Grown-ish celeb was very open about the matter and told Byrdie:“There is this focus on skincare and having a great base that I’ve learned from both sides of my family.” The tips didn’t stop here and the star was actually teaching us a lot more about her skin care routine: “That starts with eating well, and using cardamom to cleanse is part of it. Cardamom is great for you and has a number of skincare benefits. One of the only ingredients in Persian tea is cardamom. So it’s really about finding those things, whether it’s a tea or juice, that help supplement your skincare routine through your diet. It’s about making sure that you internally take of yourself, that you focus on fixing more than what’s externally visible.”

Alicia Keys

Back in 2016, when she began the NoMakeupMovement, Alicia Keys made quite an impact on all of us. The former Proactiv spokesperson has also talked about her previous struggles against blemishes and acne. The singer didn’t just get Proactiv, but she also managed to get to better looking and clearer skin by giving out on dairy, both eating and drinking.  Back in the days, Alicia Keys was very clear about her fight against acne in Elle UK: “When I first got pregnant [six years ago with her son, Egypt], I started to eliminate dairy from my diet and drank a lot more water, which made a huge difference to my skin.”

Zendaya

We love Zendaya for many things and her honesty is definitely puts her in our most relatable celebs out there. “When you have chest and back acne, it really makes you feel self-conscious and you have to be careful about what you wear so that it doesn’t show” and the words of Zendaya in Twist Magazine really make us relate.  “My mom and I would go to the store and get a bunch of different products to try. She always told me to never pick at my zits or touch them because that would make them worse” she continued and we smile thinking of our own mother, telling us the very same thing as we were growing up.

Rihanna

We didn’t get much of Rihanna when it comes to her skin care routine, but at least we got a tip about how she manages to pull it out when things go completely south. “When I feel like my skin has had it, I cut all the alcohol completely and overdo the water,” said our fav to “Elle” magazine back in 2014.

Jhené Aiko

Aiko was even more open and told us all on Instagram in March about how she manages to get the clear skin complexion that she currently has. “I take collagen pills, drink Kangen water, apple cider vinegar and take SuperFood by Dr. Schuzles [sic] daily “noted Aiko on Instagram. She even got more true about her skin-related struggles and completed with “I [used] to have cystic acne due to ovarian cyst. The b.c. [birth control pills] helps with that.”

Janelle Monáe

We were quite surprised when the Dirty Computer singer got brutally honest and told Glamour magazine “I won’t sit here and say I’ve never had a pimple, but I try to have a really great diet, you know, lots of vegetables and fish”. Her words speak from the heart and are full of wisdom too: “And I think stress plays a huge part too. I’m a believer that the more I’m giving, the happier I am, and the more beautiful my exterior will be.”

Jurnee Smollett Bell

The former Proactiv spokesperson got very honest about her own efforts about getting better skin complexion and told PopSugar: “I was shooting Friday Night Lights in Austin, and with the humidity, the great Texas food, the hormones, and the stress of me planning a wedding, my skin was freaking out”. She also praised the role of drinking enough water, getting good sleep and incorporating Proactiv into her beauty routine for better looking and acne-free skin.

Logan Browning

Struggling with an acne-prone skin for years, Browning told New York magazine some of the things she does for keeping acne at bay. “For someone who’s acne-prone, that’s coming from the overproduction of sebum and bacteria, which will then cause inflammation, this machine [TEI SPA OxyDerm High-Frequency Ozone Facial Tool] can be used at home at night to kill bacteria, and I use it every day”. The confession ended on a very honest note “I know not everyone can, but I’ve been loving it.”

Skai Jackson

Jackson admits using all sorts of tips when it comes to keeping her skin flawless, but was willing to share some of her secrets in J-14 magazine: “One of my beauty secrets is—whenever you can—try to wear no makeup at all”. It’s impossible not to get a clearer and fairer skin if you’re keeping in mind some of her tips: “Putting tons of makeup on is not good for your skin. Try green tea facials or a mud mask. I use them every night, and I get great results.”

Normani Kordei

the former Fifth Harmony singer told Gurl.com about her continuous fight with the oily skin that she has: “I have oily skin, especially during the winter, my skin actually gets really dry, which produces more oil. ” In order to reduce the excess oil from her skin, Kordei was also very true about using Clean&Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets on a regular basis.

Ashleigh Murray

We all loved her in Riverdale but we even got to love her more when she confessed to PopSugar about her regular skin-related problems.”[My acne was] one hundred percent hormonal, and it was really bad, like huge blisters on my face”. Her regular skin care regimen is quite impressive as she also uses CeraVe Renewing SA Cleanser, birth control and IS Clinical Cleansing Complex cleanser to fight the fight against cystic acne.
